Erik,

   Here's more information: I had no problems building dia-0.96.1 on my
notebook, which has 12.0 installed. Same tarball, build script, etc. Just
scp'd the files from one host to the other.

   The question now becomes: what is different between 11.0 and 12.0 that
causes problems building on the former distribution?
