I make my local edits to <pkg-name>.Slackbuilds.sbo-local , and have 
rsync exlude .-sbo-local files.

--exclude='*.sbo-local'

You could do something like that, and have sbopkg look for the 
..sbo-local slackbuild first when building packages.
