Some of the highlights include: * New code that better catches MD5SUM failures and offers the opportunity to delete the corrupted source. * New menu entry that allows a user to manually delete the saved sources for any particular software in the SBo repository. Thanks to Drew Ames for the bug reports and suggestions that led to both of these two fixes and additions. * Add in ability to edit the *.info file in a similar manner to editing the SlackBuild. With this addition, a user can now manually update the .info and SlackBuild from within sbopkg and build and install an updated package before it hits the repo. If you use vi/vim as your $EDITOR and want an easy way to insert the MD5SUM of a new source tarball, try ":r! md5sum /path/to/new/source". Then clean up the inserted information into a proper .info file layout. Thanks to nille for prodding me to get this done. * Move the editing functions into a submenu to better organize the 'info item' menu for each software selection. Thanks to nille for the suggestion. * Several error-checking and graceful exit cleanups and fixes. Please check out the included ChangeLog for more details. As always, please report any bugs to me via email, the sbopkg mailing list, or, preferably, using the Issue tracker on the project's website. I can also be found in #sbopkg, #slackbuilds, and ##slackware on freenode. I have sent an email to the maintainer but I was curious to see if others have found this small problem. In a default Slackware 12 and 12.1 installation texi2html is not in root's path and thus when the slackbuild is run as root the ffmpeg documents are not generated. This includes man pages and html docs. For my own script I have purloined the following from alien bob: +------- if ! $(which texi2html 2>/dev/null) ; then export PATH=$PATH:/usr/share/texmf/bin fi +------ and then added the html docs to the script: +------------ mkdir -p $PKG/usr/doc/$PRGNAM-$VERSION cp -a Changelog* COPYING* CREDITS* INSTALL* MAINTAINERS* \ README* doc/TODO* doc/*.txt doc/*.html $PKG/usr/doc/$PRGNAM-$VERSION ^^^^^^^^^^ +---------- Curious to see if others have encountered this issue? I stand corrected :-). But is it not more common to install from a slackbuild script using the latter method? (Although I am ready to be corrected again!) In which case the generation of the ffmpeg docs will silently fail. Andrew -- Do you think that's air you're breathing? Please add the attached patch to the SlackBuild. As it turns out I only had to change one character in weatherfeed.py to make it work. It sounds like weather.com added a couple comment tags to their feed and that was getting parsed instead of the real data under the weather tag. Here's the concise thought process for those interested in knowing how I came to this conclusion... I knew the problem was that the feed changed so I first opened up a current feed to take a look at it. Here is an example: http://tinyurl.com/4afuph Running weatherfeed.py by itself showed that the first error appeared when it tried to access data (line 65). So, I put a print statement to look at the main node name (line 55). print self.dom.childNodes[1].nodeName This returned "#comment", but childNodes[3] returns "weather", which is what we want. --phil --- On Tue, 9/9/08, Martin Lefebvre wrote: > From: Martin Lefebvre > Subject: Re: [Slackbuilds-users] CurseTheWeather maintainer's email and runtime problems > To: "SlackBuilds.org Users List" > Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 9:55 AM > > The last time I wrote to Martin (for another script) he > told me in the > > reply > > "I'm not part of the SBo project > anymore.". > > So I think we can assume that all his scripts are > unmaintained. > > Mauro > > most of them are... It worked this way in OOo 2. Perhaps making it an option and installing one of the three dictionaries based upon $OOLANG would be good. I don't see a *good* reason not to just install all of them, unless of course they add lots of space to the package. I don't think that will be the case, as they obviously ship with the package - they're just not activated for whatever reason. Nice work! All three dictionaries were added properly with no intervention by me. I did make sure all remnants of the previous installation were deleted first. Speaking of which, I solved my problem with the AutoSpellCheck. I figured out that I had to start with fresh OpenOffice settings (ie not import them from OOo 2, which is the default option). If you forget to uncheck the import box then delete your ~/.openoffice.org directory and try again. The OOo 2 settings stay in ~/.openoffice.org2. You might want to put a note in the README about a potential problem with the AutoSpellCheck if importing OOo 2 settings. The German version, for example, has additional German and Italian dictionaries, but misses the Spanish one. Slackware 12.1 shipped with > Pyrex. If you have it installed, maybe it's too old for the new ORBit2? Yeah, I should have checked that before too, I guess I was just to anxious to see everything working. I DIDN'T have Pyrex installed in my system (probably because I upgraded my Slackware 11 to the 12.1 instead of creating a brand new installation), but now everything seems to work just fine. Thanks for the enlightenment and keep up the great job. Another problem remains, though. All the required packages, plus the optional ones compizconfig-backend-kconfig, compizconfig-backend-gconf and simple-ccsm were installed just ok, as I said, but this other optional pkg, compiz-fusion-plugins-extra, gave that ugly one: i486-slackware-linux-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I/usr/include/libxml2 -I/usr/include/startup-notification-1.0 -I/usr/include/compiz It does not appear to have any benefit I find. I've been using compiz on gnome for about 2 weeks now, only using the backend of "flat file". All the settings are still easily changed using the 'ccsm' which is *much* easier than navigating gconf's settings throught the gconf-editor tool. All settings are easily accessed from the fusion-icon that sits in the tray. Good Luck. Of course I can't be 100% sure that it's correct as is, as I don't have a Nvidia card for that driver available, but the kernel module builds and some users on nvnews reported it works for them. That was enough reason for me to include the patch. I tried filter patch, but it caused strange behaviour when I added "flac" to the list (ignoring everything except "ogg"), so I ditched it. And speaking about FLACs, why does herrie need additional library (libsndfile) for playback? The one that is in SBo, doesn't compile in -current (apparently due to newer automake), luckily there's a pre-built package in http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/libsndfile/, which worked fine. And the development model of libsndfile is weird, the last official release was two years ago. Having said that, I enjoy herrie a lot. Vi-like keybindings is a nice touch. I only had a few minutes to look at the problem, but it appears that the setting from the config file is not being read correctly. However, the default (compiled in) setting works correctly as expected. Thus, as a temporary workaround, you can make a minor adjustment to the filter patch (orig one if not using autoquit) by adding whitelisted extensions to config.c section (top section of patch). I tested this for a flac extension as an example and it works great. Hopefully I'll have more time soon to fix the patch so that it reads from the config file correctly. As far as libsndfile, I don't know a lot about it. I don't use flac currently, but I do use wave files (which do require libsndfile). That is a good question to ask on the herrie list. Perhaps the code can be changed so that it isn't required for flac. --phil --- On Wed, 10/22/08, Audrius Ka?ukauskas wrote: > From: Audrius Ka?ukauskas > Subject: Re: [Slackbuilds-users] Herrie 2.2 SlackBuild has old tarball still > To: slackbuilds-users at slackbuilds.org > Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 2:21 AM > On Tue, 2008-10-21 at 16:57:15 -0700, Phillip Warner wrote: > > Speaking of which, I'm interested in getting some > feedback on the > > experimental patches I have added in. Some of the highlights include: * New code has been added to allow the user to cleanly abort the source download by pressing Control-C; thanks to Zordak for the suggestion. * Add in several improvements to the rsync and wget stages, whereby better error messages are detected and displayed, -z is removed from rsync, and other general cleanups; thanks to macavity for the suggestions and patches. * Add in -O option to wget to allow for cases where downloaded source name is different than expected (such as virtualbox-ose); thanks to acidchild for the bug report. * Add in new sbopkg.conf variable TIMEOUT to allow the user to manually set the timeout value for rsync and wget; thanks to macavity for the suggestion. NOTE: this will require users upgrading from previous versions to either merge the new sbopkg.conf into their existing file, or manually add a TIMEOUT=10 (default is 10 seconds) to their existing sbopkg.conf file. * Add in several updatelist fixes; thanks to Erik Hanson for the bug reports. * Add in fix where searching for category names would create problems; thanks to nille for the bug report. * Add in some new code in an initial attempt to fix the 'decimal' problem in bash, in which comparing package versions (like 3.9 versus 3.11) would result in incorrect updatelist results. This code should fix some updatelist errors reported by Erik Hanson, samac, and Joao Felipe Santos. This new code needs testing, so please check the updatelist and then consider running it with the debug feature enabled and check the results the again. See the UPDATELIST-DEBUGGING document for details on how to enable debugging. * Fix size of several dialog boxes for a better UI; thanks to Erik Hanson for the bug report. * Several error-checking and graceful exit cleanups and fixes. Please check out the included ChangeLog for more details. As always, please report any bugs to me via email, the sbopkg mailing list, or, preferably, using the Issue tracker on the project's website. I just wanted to let you know that the version of rsync that comes with Slackware 12.0 (rsync-2.6.9-i486-2_slack12.0) does not support the --contimeout option, generating an error when you select the "Rsync" option in the sbopkg menu. Apparently, this option was added to rsync in version 3.0.0pre6. You can see it by visiting the Changelog: http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/ChangeLog.gz and searching for "contimeout". I am attaching a patch, but I'm not sure if I'm doing things correctly. My bash-fu is not very good, I'm sorry. I'll take a look at this and figure out the best way to fix it. A current workaround would be to change --contimeout to --timeout in line 753 of /usr/bin/sbopkg. Update to follow shortly... -- Chess Griffin GPG Key: 0x0C7558C3 http://www.chessgriffin.com From chess at chessgriffin.com Mon Oct 27 22:24:14 2008 From: chess at chessgriffin.com (Chess Griffin) Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2008 18:24:14 -0400 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] fixes for sbopkg 0.13.0 Message-ID: <8682df160810271524s767e90e0v91a6d6c5a651f7d@mail.gmail.com> Okay, to fix the issues introduced by the reworked rsync flags, I ended up going back to --timeout instead of --contimeout and then moved the rsync and wget flags into sbopkg.conf, so folks can edit them manually if desired. I would _really_ appreciate some testers on this. Please pull down svn following the instructions here: http://code.google.com/p/sbopkg/source/checkout Then, backup your current /etc/sbopkg/sbopkg.conf, copy trunk/src/etc/sbopkg/sbopkg.conf.new to /etc/sbopkg/sbopkg.conf (making any necessary local changes), and then run sbopkg directly from trunk/src/usr/bin/sbopkg. You can check out the new sbopkg.conf and edit the RSYNCFLAGS and WGETFLAGS if desired. Please let me know if there are any issues. I'd like to get an update out asap. Thanks! Chess -- Chess Griffin GPG Public Key: 0x0C7558C3 http://www.chessgriffin.com From chess at chessgriffin.com Tue Oct 28 14:06:56 2008 From: chess at chessgriffin.com (Chess Griffin) Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2008 10:06:56 -0400 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Sbopkg 0.13.1 released Message-ID: <8682df160810280706u2fe13464l13f95abc023e7507@mail.gmail.com> A new version 0.13.1 of sbopkg has been released. This is a bug-fix release that addresses two concerns: * A fix for OpenOffice.org not being picked up correctly on the updatelist feature. Thanks to Erik Hanson for the bug report. * A fix for a couple issues that appeared with the changes to the rsync and wget flags in version 0.13.0. Thanks to Ken Roberts and Jorge Gaton for the bug reports. To remedy this problem, I have removed TIMEOUT from sbopkg.conf and instead added two optional variables, RSYNCFLAGS and WGETFLAGS. These options have been populated with some of the flags that were previously in the sbopkg script itself. This means that folks can manually tweak the flags used by rsync and wget, although in most cases the defaults should be left alone. This also means that for those who are upgrading sbopkg from a previous version will again need to manually update their sbopkg.conf from the sbopkg.conf.new that is installed and merge the changes. Sorry about these changes to the configuration file, but hopefully they are for the better since these changes fix the problems mentioned previously and also give the users a bit more control over the flags used, if desired. Please check out the included ChangeLog for more details. As always, please report any bugs to me via email, the sbopkg mailing list, or, preferably, using the Issue tracker on the project's website. I can also be found in #sbopkg, #slackbuilds, and ##slackware on freenode. This makes me more informed about what specific changes there are and if they affect me. This is particularly important for me when I have modified a SlackBuild. Will my custom changes still work with this new version or not? It also makes it easier to catch the occasionally mistake left in the build script (such as a commented chown line) So, my suggestion is that you allow an option to have a diff created (and viewed) before replacing the old SlackBuild. Most people probably only would want to see a diff of the actual .SlackBuild file. These diffs could be optionally stored or deleted after viewing them. --phil From rw at rlworkman.net Fri Oct 31 15:17:16 2008 From: rw at rlworkman.net (Robby Workman) Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2008 10:17:16 -0500 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Updates - 20081029 In-Reply-To: <262184.36495.qm@web57701.mail.re3.yahoo.com> References: <200810292140.52190.michiel@slackbuilds.org> <262184.36495.qm@web57701.mail.re3.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <20081031101716.20711a48@liberty.rlwhome> On Fri, 31 Oct 2008 07:43:05 -0700 (PDT) Phillip Warner wrote: > In the TiMidity++ SlackBuild: > #chown -R root:root . It almost surely can't be the >build script doing -- did the same thing happen with a manual build >from source? No, but I had a little trouble with permissions, had to set them up properly, something had cleared world permissions also under /var/. Oh, and permissions on /tmp were wrecked too, had to fix the cleared world perms there -- cron jobs run as user were failing 'cos no /tmp file creation :( But this could have been left over from the /var oddness, took a while for me to notice another process failing. Anyway, leafnode-2 built from source is running okay except sometimes it stops with a stuck lock file that I have to delete manually and run fetchnews again. I have it setup for once/hour operation but ISP NNTP connections have lots of packet loss, which is why I'm running leafnode in the first place. Using two NNTP servers, news.motzarella.org + ISP's netnews.dodo.com.au, both on 90 second timeout 3am here, hope this makes some sense :) Thanks, Grant. -- http://bugsplatter.id.au From pc_warner at yahoo.com Fri Oct 31 19:09:54 2008 From: pc_warner at yahoo.com (Phillip Warner) Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2008 12:09:54 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] dmenu location changed, SlackBuild needs update In-Reply-To: <20081031102759.756a51df@liberty.rlwhome> Message-ID: <983942.84016.qm@web57702.mail.re3.yahoo.com> Thanks, Robby.
