You might need to add -Ddisable_sse2=1 to the configuration section, if your 32bit machine doesn't have sse2. Something that just crossed my mind, and would probably fit in the context of that list, is a "dumping ground" of SlackBuilds the author doesn't want to maintain (pre SBo submission). The reasoning behind it would be, that at least I am doing some amount of SlackBuilds for apps I'm curious about, but end up not being interested in in the long term for various reasons (not what I was looking for, didn't quite work for what I want, don't need it anymore, etc) and hence never submit to SBo. But that wouldn't mean that there isn't someone out there who might be interested in that app and willing to maintain it. And I imagine there might be others doing "hidden work" as well :) What do you guys think? Would that fit in the context of that list? Would it be useful to anyone? Also a valid question, would it have downsides? Grs, Heinz -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... As we have other packages here with the same problem (AFAIK already taken care of), I guess it could help adding "-j1" to 'make', explicitly, in webkitgtk.SlackBuild and in pdftk.SlackBuild (so MAKEFLAGS jobs env variable is not used). What's the other's comment on the situation. Looking at pypar2-1.4.tar.gz there are some critical situations to be considered here: - package is pretty old (2007), so chances to be updated by upstream are few. - it uses Makefile, instead of relying on distutils (setup.py), etc... - modules are supposed to be installed in /usr/share/pypar2/src (and not in /usr//python2.6/site-packages/), imported by main.py, and executable is a symbolic link to main.py. To make a long story short: to "standardize" such a package (moving to site-packages, etc..) is not worth the effort, IMHO. If I'm not missing somewhat obvious, I'd keep Makefile as you find it in .tar.gz, just replacing MANDIR and using make install with DESTDIR and prefix=/usr. Robby, I wonder why you moved SRCNAM in some of these SlackBuilds but not in all of them? I was originally following perl SlackBuild template in the usage of SRCNAM. Curiously, where you didn't move it (haskell-{parallel,QuickCheck}), you introduced the quotation problem which seems fixed already :) Btw, is "paralell" just a typo in the commit message? I just want to make sure we don't have a typo somewhere else in case these commits are automated somehow. -vmj From pwcazenave at gmail.com Wed Dec 15 09:36:43 2010 From: pwcazenave at gmail.com (Pierre Cazenave) Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2010 09:36:43 +0000 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Github Message-ID: <4D088C2B.2050406@gmail.com> A project for which I maintain a SlackBuild (gimp-deskew-plugin) has gone offline. I've had a look at the github site for the Gimp deskew plugin, but there haven't been any official releases, so I can't specify a version in the url to download. I can only download Master, which might change, at which point the md5 sum of the source in my .info file will differ from the downloaded source's sum. Have been looking at some of the builds I submitted for 13.0 that didn't make it into the 13.1 repo (mostly because they need to be patched for 13.1's newer gcc). Going through them, patching, will eventually be resubmitting them, but I can't help but wonder whether some of the more niche-market ones are even being used (example: games/oblige, a Doom level generator. Does anyone besides me even play Doom any more?) I wish there were a way for maintainers to know whether anyone's even using a build. Maybe a "number of times downloaded" stat on the site would be a nice thing to have? I can think of a few problems with that of course: - It would require someone to actually code it up, and be one more part of the site adding to admins' burden - A lot of users rsync the whole tree, and when they want to build something, just untar their copy of whatever.tar.gz from their local tree. - "Number of times downloaded" doesn't really tell us whether the downloaders are still using the package (they might have tried it, decided it's awful, removed it within 5 minutes). The only other idea I have that might help with this, is a "vote for this build" button on the site... but again, people using rsync wouldn't be likely to use it (and even people using the site, would have to make time to return to the site after using the built package a while, in order to vote). Is possible that I've just wasted everyone's time who reads this... but maybe there's some idea someone has that would work? I agree with Erik's response about the potential of sbopkg including a voluntary report function, which seems to be the simplest method. My interest is not to see exactly how many users are using my builds, but that at least one other person is benefiting from my scripts. Can one of the sbopkg admins chime in to let us know if this can be possible or if it would be in the scope of their application? -- -Thank You, -Matthew Fillpot From kingbeowulf at gmail.com Sun Dec 19 19:00:53 2010 From: kingbeowulf at gmail.com (King Beowulf) Date: Sun, 19 Dec 2010 11:00:53 -0800 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Stellarium 0.10.6 Message-ID: FYI, the latest version (0.10.6) builds ok with the 13.1 slackbuild script for version 0.10.4 - at least everything seems to run ok so far under Xfce. The current list of scripts is: academic/units desktop/crystalcursors libraries/id3lib network/GeoIP network/aircrack-ng system/cabextract system/clamav system/irqbalance I currently have an updated script for units and cabextract that I can submit if noone else wants to take them. I also would not mind taking over clamav, however this is only a slightly modified version of Alienbob script which he make available on his repo so I don't know if he want to take that one over or if he is fine having his script continuing being maintained by someone else on SBo. I use clamav on all my machines and have been using Alien's package since the SBo one wasn't kept up to date. But I prefer having all the packages coming from one source as it is easier to maintain over several machines. Cheers Greg -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Looks that way to me. Maybe rename the SBo package to gdk-pixbuf-1 or gdk-pixbuf-legacy, and/or add a "This is the legacy gdk-pixbuf from Gtk+ 1" type of statement to README + slack-desc? Also... "grep pixbuf */*/README" shows only desktop/wmdrawer and multimedia/LiVES actually require the gdk-pixbuf on SBo (graphics/gliv mentions it in the README too, but it's talking about the 2.x version). Maybe the maintainers of wmdrawer and LiVES could see if there's a way to build against the 2.x version, and then the old one could just go away? ...addendum: wmdrawer's README says "This requires gdk-pixbuf", but during the compile: > gcc -Wall -O2 -fPIC `pkg-config --cflags gdk-pixbuf-xlib-2.0` -I/usr/include -DLINUX -DUSE_GDKPIXBUF2 -c utils.c It's using the 2.0 one that's in Slackware already (I don't even have the 1.x one installed). So, all it needs is a line removed from its README...
