I have noticed some SBo scripts have the same problem in -current if they contain "set -e" (alas I've lost the list :-/ but I will test again ASAP). Package seems to be built and installed correctly (except files copied after make install) but .tgz is not created. An similar example was "my" htmldoc package: in -current it failed, so I've used "|| exit 1" for "make" and "make install", in the last uploaded update, and it was successful. I'd say 13.0 doesn't have these problems (AFAIR) so it seems to be related to bash builtin command(s) in recent bash packages (but I couldn't say why and where ...). Maybe, for the future, would it be worth to replace bash's "set -e" with a selective bunch of "|| exit 1" for untarring, configuring, compiling and automatic installing only? -- GNU/Linux * Slackware64 current Slackware 13.0-32bit VM LU #210970 SU #12583 LM #98222/#412913 From rworkman at slackbuilds.org Wed Mar 3 16:41:00 2010 From: rworkman at slackbuilds.org (Robby Workman) Date: Wed, 3 Mar 2010 10:41:00 -0600 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] pcmanfm (0.5.2) slackbuild In-Reply-To: <20100303172552.3e3062a4lukenshiro@ngi.it@hamalay.mnt> References: <503849.81502.qm@web87111.mail.ird.yahoo.com> <20100303172552.3e3062a4lukenshiro@ngi.it@hamalay.mnt> Message-ID: <20100303104100.37706d82@liberty.rlwhome.lan> On Wed, 3 Mar 2010 17:25:52 +0100 LukenShiro wrote: > Il giorno Tue, 2 Mar 2010 22:31:32 +0000 (GMT) > PHILLIP MORRIS ha scritto: > > Just been trying to build pcmanfm-0.5.2 but line 49 of the build > > script set -e prevents the script from completing because the NEWS > > document is a zero length file. > > pcmanfm fails just after "make install", but only when "set -e" is > present in its .SlackBuild. > > > I have noticed some SBo scripts have the same problem in -current if > they contain "set -e" (alas I've lost the list :-/ but I will test > again ASAP). Whereas bash3 wouldn't exit the parent shell if a subshell exited with nonzero status, bash4 *does* exit the parent shell. The most common thing that we do to trigger this is the ( find ... | strip ... ) lines in our scripts. Placing "|| true" after the find lines solves it. Perfect, thank you for the explanation :-) I suppose this variation in SlackBuild template has been inadvertently missed by some maintainers here (me included). No problem, in the next bunch of updates I will verify my scripts about it, more carefully. I have rectified that fault and submitted a new version to the SBo Admins (in c.c.) some days ago. Today I can see it in the approved list. In the mean time, you may use the attached. As for your doinst.sh, I have to disappoint you unless the SBo Admins agrees to your suggestion. In my opinion, the secret to the SBo success lies in sticking to what is strictly necessary to build a package. The Slackware community tends to be draconian about simplicity. Any ad-hoc interventions can create new bugs and issues that are difficult to manage. Nevertheless, if you wish to take over the maintenance you are welcome, as I think that it is healthy to distribute the load. The MINI_HOWTO are only my personal notes and does not form part of the package as it is not in the upstream source, but if you take over maintenance, then you can decide yourself. We have been working steadily since the last release to fix bugs and add a couple of new features. There is one new addition to the sbopkg.conf configuration file, so please check out the installed sbopkg.conf.new to merge the change. Here is the unedited ChangeLog: * Add several renames to 50-default renames file. * Add support for UNSUPPORTED/UNTESTED packages in the SBo repo; thanks to artourter for the bug report. * Honor the TAG exported by the user; thanks to Matteo Bernardini for the feature request. * Fix issue where delete sources in package info item menu did not work in some cases; thanks to artourter for the report, thanks to slakmagik for the hard work in fixing this and thanks to Mauro for the review and suggestions. * Add the ability to skip the prompts for sbopkg's directory creations via the new config file option MKDIR_PROMPT. This is useful, for example, if you have some SBo/sbopkg directories on a temporary filesystem and don't want to be bothered with repeated directory creation prompts. Thanks to agikhan for the report. * Address an issue where sbopkg could sometimes pick an older package to present for installation rather than the most recent one; thanks to artourter for the report. * Prevent sbopkg from spitting error messages when trying to determine the version of some packages (e.g. google-chrome, whose version is discovered looking into the source package which can be missing). Thanks to alkos333 for the bug report. * Add ability to temporarily change $ARCH in the 'options' submenu. Big thanks to all the sbopkg users who have pounded on this utility, reported bugs, and suggested enhancements. We hope you find this software useful and these updates beneficial. As always, a new package and source tarball are available for direct download from the sbopkg project website: http://www.sbopkg.org. Please report any issues to the sbopkg mailing list or, preferably, to the sbopkg Issue Tracker at the project's Google Code page. Thanks once again to my cohorts, Mauro Giachero and slakmagik, for their invaluable assistance. Enjoy! -- Chess Griffin -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I am using http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.0/office/openoffice.org/ which I built when it came out. Now, I find myself in need of opening Works files, and my installed OOo will not. Therefore, I installed Libwps. I then checked to see if my installed OOo could access the import filter, but it does not pick it up. My next thought is that it might pick it up if I rebuild the OOo Slackbuild, but if it merely rebuilds prepackaged RPMs, it might not include anything. I just wanted to ask if anyone had experience with this before I started downloading and rebuilding. You'd have to specify that you want to use the system one. > However, it'll take hours to compile and requires many gigabytes of disk > space. Indeed, and it doesn't build with multiple jobs either, which makes this truly a PITA. > The precompiled binary repackaging in the "standard" openoffice > SlackBuild won't pick up the new libraries, unless I'm mistaken. You can repackage openoffice is much as you want. I t will never pick up support for libwps. So basically, what you want is go_openoffice.org. If you don't want to build it from source you can try a binary package of it, like for example oxygenoffice, or others linked at go-oo.org Grs, Heinz -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I'm using slackware-current but I don't see how this matters in this case. When I try to run id3.SlackBuild it stops in line 61 (the second "find"): ( cd $PKG find . | xargs file | grep "executable" | grep ELF | cut -f 1 -d : | \ xargs strip --strip-unneeded 2> /dev/null || true find . | xargs file | grep "shared object" | grep ELF | cut -f 1 -d : | \ xargs strip --strip-unneeded 2> /dev/null ) The problem Is that the package does not create any libraries, so in the above line the strip command fails and creates an error. I think you should either completely remove the line from the script or at least add a "|| true" in the end to let the script continue after this. Also, I don't really see any reason to have "|| true" in the previous line. An executable should always be present in the package. I'm confused: I tried to install libgnome using Slackbuild, on a pristine Slackware-current system, and it requires GConf. GConf requires Policykit, which I can't find on Slackbuild. I went over a load of google results, and have noticed that there seems to be a certain resistance to installing Policykit on Slackware (could not find clear motives), which is fine by me, but I do need libgnome/libgnomeui to run a couple of apps... How do I go about that, if they all insist on GConf, which insists on policykit? Neither the README in GConf (which mentions dependency on ORBit-2.0 but not on PolicyKit) not the one in libgnome[ui] mention Policykit. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I guess I mixed up things - I did have 2.26.0.tar.gz, but the Slackbuild command was one that required policykit (I guess I must have downloaded and overwritten the original GConf.tar.gz, probably from another source). What is this about Gnome SlackBuilds, NLUUG Slackbuilds? Are they compatible? Thanks! There probably are no man-pages to compress, and bash4 does not continue after the error in the sub-shell (bash3 from 13.0-stable does). If there are no man-pages, you can delete those lines without problems. I'm currently maintaining the pdksh slackbuild. This is based strictly on the vanilla pdksh-5.2.14, and contains some additional patches (from Debian and OpenBSD). I have a new port, which ports OpenBSD's improved, advanced and audited pdksh version to Linux. It also is based on pdksh-5.2.14, but has a lot of useful and new features and it is more compliant to POSIX. Also it is actively maintained which I can not say in regards to the original pdksh. I'm willing to post and maintain the Linux port of it (to the best of my abilities), if there is a will to include it in SBo. The two versions' (OBSD and original) rc/profile files are totally compatible, so existing users won't notice anything, except that they'll have new features, and that many bugs had been fixed. My question is that is there a demand for this improved pdksh among the existing pdksh users, and is it acceptable that I discontinue the current pdksh slackbuild (based on the original pdksh), and start to work on the OBSD's version of pdksh? Thanks for any comments.
