Thank you for the clarification on this; sourcing /etc/profile after
reinstalling tetex did the trick.
This was not clear to me based on the README, but as sleep-deprived as
I've been lately, I don't know if that is the fault of the README or of
my own tired brain. That said, it might be nice if the README stated
something to the effect of "this package requires tetex or texlive to
build".
