I think you are over thinking it. Its not a question of conflict but
rather duplication.  IIRC,

wxPython == Python bindings + wxGTK

wxGTK == just wxGTK, nothing else.

So, if you need to use wxWidgets with Python, install wxPython: libs for
wxGTK apps are included.  If you just need wxGTK, then just install than
one.

Simple!
