   Interesting. I've not looked at or modified /etc/inputrc or ~/.inputrc;
never paid any attention to them.

   /etc/inputrc has nothing germane to line wrapping. ~/.inputrc has
horizontal-scroll-mode set to Off; that's how it's always been.
