By default, it will not be used, unless you mention STL=yes ./wxGTK3.SlackBuild This is required for FileZilla update and also one of Benjamin's new package. I will perform more testing on other packages later when i'm back home this Saturday, but aegisub and filezilla are confirmed to be OK with these feature turned off. I'm still testing poedit at this moment. -- Willy Sudiarto Raharjo From thomas at beingboiled.info Sun Aug 3 01:38:10 2014 From: thomas at beingboiled.info (Thomas Morper) Date: Sun, 3 Aug 2014 03:38:10 +0200 (CEST) Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] REQUIRES="%README%" revisited Message-ID: Hello there, A while ago there was a discussion about the %README% option that didn't really result in a clear conclusion. Yet, I noticed that the option has been removed from my Exim SlackBuild's info. So, what's the official stance on the purpose of %README%? As I see it, Exim fits either way of interpreting what the %README% is supposed to do. The package conflicts with Slackware's Sendmail, so automatic tools should stop here and prompt the user with the README before building and installing. And there's an optional depedency on PostgreSQL. Some clarification would be appreciated. -- From willysr at slackbuilds.org Sun Aug 3 02:13:09 2014 From: willysr at slackbuilds.org (Willy Sudiarto Raharjo) Date: Sun, 03 Aug 2014 09:13:09 +0700 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] REQUIRES="%README%" revisited In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <53DD9AB5.8060403@slackbuilds.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 > A while ago there was a discussion about the %README% option that > didn't really result in a clear conclusion. Thanks Miquel, I was already thinking along these lines, but the plexmediaserver SlackBuild script gave me the idea to use "getent" instead of either "grep" or "id" for testing groups and userids. getent is preferred as it works with external group/userid servers such as LDAP. In any large organization, the /etc/group and /etc/passwd files hold only a small fraction of the available groups and userids. Richard Narron --------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of -- Wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up along delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, Where never lark, or even eagle flew; And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. -- John Gillespie Magee Jr., "High Flight" From willysr at slackbuilds.org Sat Aug 9 01:12:26 2014 From: willysr at slackbuilds.org (Willy Sudiarto Raharjo) Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2014 08:12:26 +0700 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Updates - Went to google, searched for "pandas-0.14.1.tar.gz", first hit is a fedora repo that has the file: https://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/repo/pkgs/python-pandas/pandas-0.14.1.tar.gz/393dd8f35411e4022177aa64b2da46f4/pandas-0.14.1.tar.gz If you search for the md5sum (from the pandas.info file) instead, that's still the first hit, which is a useful thing to know if a source download goes missing... Downloaded pandas-0.14.1.tar.gz from above link, md5sum matches. The SlackBuild looks smart enough to handle the file with that name, but I don't know how to coerce sbopkg to accept it (just run the build manually, would be the easiest thing to do). I haven't tried it as I don't feel like installing all the deps. If you download the file from the original URL (the one with the bad md5sum) and the one from the fedora repo and compare their contents, they are very different. It looks like the author decided to restructure the release tarball, move stuff around within it, get rid of some extraneous files that end in ~ (probably backups made by an editor). I hate when upstream does that without bumping their version number, but *shrug*, what you gonna do? For what it's worth, I downloaded pandas.tar.gz and pandas-0.14.1.tar.gz files from SBo and had no issues building or upgrading on both 32- and 64-bit versions of Slackware-14.1. There was no indication of a md5sum mis-match. I've removed the texmf-local directory from the package so that it won't be looked at unless the local sysadmin creates it, but more importantly, I removed the "--syncwithtrees" option from the updmap-sys call in doinst.sh; it will spew some warnings about map files not being found (i.e. the ones in the other -extra package), but those will be piped to /dev/null in the installation stage anyway. The new files are in the same location I specified earlier, so please give them a go and see how they work. The math file you gave earlier built here on the first try, so it seems that all is well. -RW -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I'm inclined to accept this, but then I wonder if that's not a too-slippery slope to consider. Is ctex included in the present tetex stuff shipped with Slackware? In other words, if texlive as packaged by my current scripts were added to Slackware today (assuming the updmap.cfg bug mentioned elsewhere in this thread is fixed now), would lack of ctex be a regression? -RW -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... CTex is not available in tetex because it highly depend on XeTeX to get the CJK fonts right. No, it won't considered as a regression if we don't include CTex(does tetex support CJK documents?). But since the total size of /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/ctex is only 221K, I think it will be a big win with little effort if we include it. -- Cheers, Grissiom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is my first post at this mailing list. I really don't know if this is a proper subject for this mailing list, but please forgive me if I'm wrong. I am a user of Slackware and SlackBuilds, and sometimes I'd find something to change in some package. This was the case of ffmpeg. I use to track upstream for the latest version (today's is 2.3.2), and usually download it and use the current slackbuild script (today it's for version 2.1.1) to build a package, using something like 'su -c "VERSION=v.v.v sh package.SlackBuild". Usually it works. But ffmpeg upstream developers made slight changes starting in version 2.3, and those changes is the subject I'd like to talk about. In sum, they modified the names of some files (e.g, "INSTALL.md" for the older "INSTALL"), and changed the location of one file, "RELEASE_NOTES". Some slight changes in some copy commands were sufficient to make the script work again. Also, this new script was made compatible with versions prior to 2.3. He showed me that he had delved deeper into Xen and I was glad to pass all my work to him. Since then Xen changed a lot and I forfeited any claims that I had contributed to the current slackbuilds in SBo. According to my recollection, dom0 and domU boot from the same kernel and initrd. If one runs "dumpcap -D" or "dumpcap -L" (with root account or with enough privileges), a seg fault occur after doing all the stuff, precisely after the code is exiting to the OS. I first guessed it to be a novel thing, but it seems to be quite old (see, for instance, http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/wireshark-1-10-0-segfaults-on-slackware64-4175466068/page2.html). So, the slackbuild script should have been already updated. Anyway, in my case, it seemed sufficient to add this clause to the CFLAGS definition: --with-libnl=3 Doing so, wireshark complies with the option chosen earlier for the compilation of libpcap (that is, to use libnl3 rather than libnl), and this seems to solve the problem. Starting with Libre Office 4.1.x, I've started installing it for my clients (after using Apache Open Office). I have some power users among them, e. g. folks who use the more advanced functionalities of an office suite. So I know sooner or later if the software runs well or if there are some showstopping bugs. My experience with Libre Office is that it's a good idea to aim for later minor versions of a stable branch. For example, while Libre Office 4.2.x was in its early stages, I stayed with 4.1.6. Then, while 4.3.x was in the making, I moved to 4.2.6. And so on. This way you end up with a quite polished and bug-free Libre Office. Maybe slackbuilds.org can adopt a similar policy? Thinking of it: I apply a similar policy to VirtualBox. Cheers, Niki PS: back after an Ubuntu-only summer. I prefer staying on the latest version personally. The features they add with each new release are exciting to watch. Modifying the build is easy enough, but it is nice for people using sbopkg to be able to automatically install the latest version. ;^) Cheers, Ryan --- > On Aug 21, 2014, at 10:41 PM, Niki Kovacs wrote: > > Maybe slackbuilds.org can adopt a similar policy? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Okay, I've not synced it up yet, but I just finished generating new tarballs for those with the ctex stuff included in the main archive. I'm still not convinced that this is the best approach, and in fact, I'm going to run some tests with the gust scheme moved into the extra archive instead of main, and that will also (probably) push xetex (and thus ctex) into the extra archive too. I don't know what impact this will have on the sizes, but if it's a significant change to the main archive (i.e. if it's appreciably smaller) and there's not any effect on functionality with respect to what Slackware the distro needs, then that's probably what I'll do. -RW -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... In a weak sense, this is already available -- you can clone the git repo and go back to a previous version. When a new version is available upstream, the maintainer needs to find a balance. If the SlackBuild will work with no other changes, or if it will break dependent packages in the repo, I am more likely to skip it, unless there are nice new features or important bugfixes. Well, that's what I tell myself, but really it depends on my experience with the upstream project. If their upgrades are usually a pain, then the SlackBuild will get less frequent upgrades :O If there are major changes coming I am more likely to do SlackBuilds for release candidates in my own github repo, and other maintainers do that too, so if you have a favourite application, it's worth stalking your maintainer :-) Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth having a way to flag out of date packages, like Arch, but for many reasons an email to the maintainer works better if you think it is significant. And at the end of the day most SlackBuilds will work well when you specify a different VERSION. The tools could support that better, but that's another story. -D. Well, I sort of do: unlike most version bumps, that one actually took me a couple of days to get compiling correctly, then I had to re-do it to get zathura-pdf-mupdf to use it without crashing, and basically had spent so much time on those 2 builds that I wasn't as careful as usual with final checking... Which is not meant as an excuse, but it does mean it'd be good if you could take a look at zathura, zathura-cb, and zathura-pdf-mupdf if you have the time. I could use a second set of eyes (a set that's not sick of looking at them). > Instead of hosting the source archive on a 3rd party site, the download > link should point to the official site. Luckily the current version is > already available in the archive folder, providing us with a stable link: > > http://mupdf.com/downloads/archive/mupdf-1.5-source.tar.gz Hm. Might as well, got to resubmit. Didn't even look in archive/, I confess. I found another stupid thing I did: the old build was version 1.2, build 3. I forgot to reset the BUILD= back to 1 when changing the version to 1.5. So 1.5 never had builds 1 and 2, and the fixed one will be 4. It's not noise: check the doinst.sh for google-earth. It should include the standard gtk-update-icon-cache stanza, but it doesn't (so you had to do it manually). So you're actually reporting a bug.
