[Slackbuilds-users] Future of QtiPlot

Hi to all,

A new version of QtiPlot (0.9.9) is out. I was hoping that it would build
on -current. However, the source code is not available. I contacted the
developer, Ion Vasilief, and it seems that it will not be made public
anytime soon.

here's a quote from our conversation:

From nowhere. For the moment you cann't, the source code for the latest
QtiPlot version will be made available in a few years.
The license has changed, no longer GPL.

So, guys. What would you advise me to do? We can stick with the last
version (0.9.8.9) that is GPL (already quite old, released in 2011) and I
can try to keep it buildable in the future. In principle, I do not mind
maintaining a SlackBuild for 'abandoned' source. However, QtiPlot is not
all that trivial to build and I am afraid that I lack the skills to fix
future issues.

May be it's time to look for an alternative, like ScidaVis?

It looks similar and IIRC it was forked from QtiPlot. The latest version is
from this year and the license is GPL.

I will appreciate any suggestions.

bye

Petar
