Must be the late hour - I just realised that libva is not on SBo any 
more because it is part of mainline Slackware. And it wasn't installed 
on the server I was working on, because the x series wasn't installed - 
it being a headless server. I will get libva and its dependencies 
installed and re-attempt the compilation. Sorry for the noise!
