   I downloaded ess on this host (from the ess site) a few years ago.
Some time late last year or early this year I received an e-mail (on the
ess-r mail list) that a new version is in development and they wanted folks
to test it. I've no idea what version is currently installed in emacs or is
assigned to the newer version.
