[Slackbuilds-users] git clone instead of downloading a source tarball

One additional question, then: if a tarball is required, is it acceptable
to download a git repo as a zip file and use that in a SlackBuild?

Many projects hosted on GitHub offer pre-packaged "releases", but these are
almost always zip files, and not ".tar.gz" files.
