I see that you got it working later - great!  I think it's also nice to 
know that there are alternative ACME clients that do not rely on Python. 
One such is "dehydrated", which is implemented in Bash.

There's even a SlackBuild:

I'm not sure if the official documentation has improved any since I 
first used it. If not, I wrote up a how-to guide (with emphasis on 
Slackware) which might be helpful if anyone wants to try it:

(I recently updated dehydrated and implemented it using my own guide, so 
it all still works.)

Awesome, I see now that there's no less than TWO shell script ACME 
clients on slackbuilds.org! I haven't personally tried this one:
