The jitsi.org web site has no docs, only menus point to 'Real Soon Now, we
promise!' pages. But, I found a web page that taught me how to use jitsi
meet without the need to build and host my own meeting server.

So, I'll drop this thread, re-install the newer java, and get on with my
work. My thanks to B for excellent advice.
