So, if it's not already _pre-configured_ in some of the _grub_ files, you could simple put _intel-ucode.cpio_ instead of _intel-ucode.img_. Or it wouldn't work, because grub does not like _*.cpio_? This name is _kinda_ standard in Slackware for quite some time and is used by default in _/etc/mkinitrd.conf_ Any suggestions? Maybe a copy or configurable name of the output file in the SlackBuild? And nothing prevents a user to type mkinitrd -P /any/path/to/the/early/initrd On the other hand one can propose a patch to append " intel-ucode.cpio" to GRUB_EARLY_INITRD_LINUX_STOCK but good luck to have it accepted in grub-2.12 by Daniel Kiper and if not you'd have to wait two more years or so to get it in the next grub stable version. Bear in mind that as Patrick have announced grub will be the default boot manager in Slackware 15.1, so I assule that will be grub 2.12. Further, we need to also be able to provide an early initrd for AMD CPUs as I have posted at the end of this post on LQ: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/requests-for-current-next-15-0-15-1-a-4175706801/#post6450660 Also after some thought I think it is better to use the boot manager to load the early initrds than the application that builds the main initrd, like mkinitrd or dracut or mkinitcpio, for two reasons: 1. Some Slackware users will want to continue using a kernel (maybe custom) without an initrd. 2. Whenever a new microcode is provided (either associated with a new kernel-firmware for an AMD CPU, or as a new intel-microcode package), to include it in the main initrd one need to rebuild it. instead you have nothing to do if the early initrd(s) is (are) referenced in the config file of another boot manager (systemd-boot, rEFInd, syslinux, LiLo, Limine, whatever) as the path to the early initrd will not change, but the file(s) itself or themselves will be the new one(s). No, as pointed out by fourtysixandtwo. The path in GRUB_EARLY_INITRD_LINUX_CUSTOM is indeed a custom one, but why should you require from regular users to edit /etc/default/grub to have the microcode updates handled by grub whereas grub-mkconfig would write a config file allowing that out of the box if you change the name? > I use _syslinux_ and the path to additional images to load can be configured. > > As I said, we have options, while keeping the current solution intact. > > Is, at the SlackBuild level, a configurable output file name a solution that would satisfy you? Unfortunately, it looks like the developer deleted the 1.0.3 release when they added the 1.2.0 release in July. I see two ways forward, although, having not used it, I'm sure if one is better than the other. 1. Find a saved copy of 1.0.3 and upload it somewhere else (sbodirectlinks on sf.net or maybe ponce.cc, if he's willing). Then link SBo's source to that copy. 2. Update codec2 to 1.2.0, assuming it doesn't break anything that depends on it, and hope the developer doesn't delete that release when they drop the next version. I do not use this software, so if you no longer wish to maintain it, maybe someone else can step in. Thanks! Jeremy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It does look fishy. This may be just a problem with sbopkg. But, since building wezterm with the Slackbuilds script directly involves downloading many dozens of crate files by hand, I'll pass on checking that out. Anyway, this issue can be overcome by creating the appropriate symbolic link by hand. Once this is done, the next stumbling block is the following: zvariant_utils-1.0.1/LICENSE zvariant_utils-1.0.1/README.md zvariant_utils-1.0.1/src/case.rs zvariant_utils-1.0.1/src/lib.rs zvariant_utils-1.0.1/src/macros.rs error: process didn't exit successfully: `rustc -vV` (exit status: 127) --- stderr rustc: error while loading shared libraries: librustc_driver-7adeb809cd07c1ca.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory That shared library is present in the system, but under /opt/rust16/lib64 - which, at least in my case, does not seem to be in the shared libraries search path. In turn, this issue can be sorted out by defining the LD_LIBARY_PATH environment variable appropriately in the shell where the build is taking place. After this, and a rather long time in a relatively beefy system, the installation package can be built. Perhaps it would be a good idea to provide a binary build package, just as it already is done for tools like pandoc or sage, and in essence for the same reasons. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The submission had short git shas which won't work consistently?, but I mangled this one when updating it. Sorry about that. I built this on i586 and it was fine, but it took more than ten minutes, so I started working on the next submission and did not actually come back and build it on x86_64 where I would have seen it fail. My initial searching brought up this bug: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=228268 I can also add "WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1" to the environment to workaround the bug when starting epiphany/yelp/midori with the 2.42.0 version of webkit2gtk, which was suggested in that bug report. Other programs like sushi and gnome-builder are running fine with the newer webkit2gtk package. FWIW I'm using the 535.54.03 version of the nVidia drivers and a "GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER" GPU. I wonder if anyone else with an nvidia GPU and recent drivers is seeing this issue? Maybe we could use a few more testers. Well, it's a template and the original intention was to provide a generic template for every packaging methods, but most python-based projects do not use those variables so it's safe to remove them whenever you see them in your scripts and you have verified that the build process works just as before. It's harmless warning, so we won't be doing a mass edit unless someone is willing to do it during development cycle for future SBo repository (assuming 15.1). -- Willy Sudiarto Raharjo From urchlay at slackware.uk Thu Sep 21 03:41:53 2023 From: urchlay at slackware.uk (B. They're more useful for other kinds of builds (with compiled C or C++ code), to remind the script author to actually use the flags and lib64. If you know SLKCFLAGS and/or LIBDIRSUFFIX are not going to be used, you can remove the whole if/then block. But nobody's going to force you to remove it, or complain if you don't. Eventually the python template may be changed, but that won't mean your scripts have to change. They are just NOTE's and can be ignored as such, or at least I do. It's more work to add or remove them and I like the consistency. I diff my builds against the template as another check (one without the extra comments) and it's much easier to note what should change or be unique to each build. And like you mentioned, mass edits are much easier which I found out doing the i486 -> i586 changes. Those are not useless. Firstly, some python packages build c-based components "behind the scenes", and it is better to pass some CFLAGS to them. Secondly, python packages install things into /usr/lib$LIBDIRSUFFIX/python$PYTHONVERSION/site-packages, and sometimes it does not autodetect LIBDIRSUFFIX correctly. -- Your sincerely, Vladimir Nikishkin (MiEr, lockywolf) (Laptop) From urchlay at slackware.uk Thu Sep 21 04:09:48 2023 From: urchlay at slackware.uk (B. In those cases, sbolint will not complain about them. It only gives the "note" about SLKCFLAGS or LIBDIRSUFFIX if the variable is set but never used. The builds you're talking about, you would definitely use them, so sbolint wouldn't say anything. Also... you are 100% correct, "it is better to pass some CFLAGS to them", but *so many* python builds DON'T pass the flags (even though they get set). sbolint will detect that correctly, that's the whole point of having the checks. Basically the rule is "if they're set, but never used, remind the user of that fact". It's not an error, just a "note, you might have forgotten to do this". Probably what should happen in the template: the ARCH-detection if/then block should stay there, with a comment above it reading something like: # If your build doesn't require SLKCFLAGS or LIBDIRSUFFIX, you can remove # this entire block. As it turns out, the binary Nvidia driver is made to support multiple versions of libraries and will link to different versions based on what's on the system. libcrypto.so.3 is for openssl v3, which isn't used in Slackware 15.0, but it does have a fallback to use openssl v1.1 if v3 isn't found. https://lists.slackbuilds.org/pipermail/slackbuilds-users/2023-August/028485.html We are likely seeing a similar issue here where several of your reported programs are probably designed to work with both qt5 and qt6, depending on what's found on the system. The software likely has a priority of qt6 and would use that unless it's not found, and then fall back to qt5 libraries. As long as the software works, it's likely what we're seeing and can likely be safely ignored. Jeremy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I never used sbbdep, but try setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/libs. E.g. if you have /opt/someprogram/lib: root at host# LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/someprogram/lib sbbdep This probably will work as sbbdep probably just uses ldd to find libs, and ldd respects the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. You are correct. Nothing in the repo requires it. Last year when we were prepping the repo for 15.0, I was trying to fix the pandoc build with all the latest dependencies (it has > 150 dependencies) and I wrote a slackbuild for this, but later realised it was already part of ghc, just the version was too new for other dependencies which were complaining about not finding it and those needed upgrading instead. Looks like I pushed this dependency anyway, despite it being redundant. I'll stage it for removal this week. Looks like I pushed this dependency anyway, despite it being redundant. > I'll stage it for removal this week. > > Thanks, > Andrew > > [[End of PGP Signed Part]] After talking to some people on #haskell, and looking how Haskell manages its libraries, it seems more sensible to do packaging more or less the Rust way. That is, we would have to build only one Haskell tool systemwide, "cabal", the command-line binary, which can be used basically like "rustup". Then builds would have to include a giant number of DOWNLOAD sources, but at least the dependency problem would not be that hard any more. I am saying "hard", because, apparently, Haskell makes packages transitively dependent on the build flags, managing which on the scale of SBo is unrealistic. Then, a typical script would essentially copy a bunch of "cabal" files into a ./vendor/, and use the "cabal" command to build a package using files from that directory only. However, recently I have spent a day to try and build "cabal-install", and failed. The backbone libraries build fine on Slackware with SBo (I mean haskell-Cabal-syntax, and haskell-Cabal itself), however, "haskell-hackage-security" fails with some obscure flag dependencies. Suggestions on how to build it are welcome. -- Your sincerely, Vladimir Nikishkin (MiEr, lockywolf) (Laptop) From 475.chris.willing at gmail.com Wed Sep 27 23:31:38 2023 From: 475.chris.willing at gmail.com (Christoph Willing) Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2023 09:31:38 +1000 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] SlackBuilds depending on python3-numpy Message-ID: Following upgrade of Cython to 0.29.36, I'm able to go to a more recent version of python3-numpy. Tested against python3-numpy update in Slackware64 15.0. Qgis has been tested with the lastest stable release (3.32.3) that is going to be update (not yet available in SBo, the current is 3.32.2) but I think there are no problems with the current version of the slackbuild. -- ********************************************************* Giancarlo Dess? https://www.giand.it Slackware Linux... because it works! ********************************************************* From willysr at slackbuilds.org Fri Sep 29 15:55:23 2023 From: willysr at slackbuilds.org (Willy Sudiarto Raharjo) Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2023 22:55:23 +0700 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] new webkit2gtk{4.1} In-Reply-To: References: <94d92d49-da75-464e-b3b1-5bbfa032bde5@slackbuilds.org> <307b1d3f-ad2e-40cb-9787-f262abec9358@googlemail.com> <1fd91a33-0135-40c4-886b-d9eabf56f310@slackbuilds.org> Message-ID: <84f98e66-9558-4866-be48-4c71b8af3e8a@slackbuilds.org> > In general it causes webkit based browsers to fail to render with Nvidia > drivers.
