That was pretty efficient !
For comparison, I tried re-makepkg-ing using xz -0, and here are the results:
# texlive-extra-2024.240409
| real | user | sys | size |
tgz | 5m16 | 5m07 | 11s | 3.0G |
tbz | 1m15 | 6m47 | 17s | 2.8G |
txz | 4m29 | 36m30 | 20s | 2.3G |
0txz | 1m27 | 10m03 | 13s | 2.8G |
# enlightenment-0.27.1
| real | user | sys | size |
tgz | 11s30 | 10s59 | 1s | 390M |
tbz | 3s47 | 36s93 | 1s | 383G |
txz | 1m50 | 3m32 | 3s | 385G |
0txz | 6s02 | 1m20 | 1s | 390G |
It feels there should broader testing to have a better picture.
Here although lbzip2 is still looking like the best compromise.
And I know a lot of peaople (myself from some years ago being one of them)
« wouldn't have even thought of trying bzip2. » but it is clearly neither a bad
nor an outdated tool.
Cheers ;)
