There is a known bug with LyX 1.5.3 and newer versions of qt4. So, LyX 1.5.3 crashes when compiled against the current qt4 packages on SlackBuilds. This has been fixed with LyX version 1.5.6. Could the SlackBuild and package source be updated? Just for your consideration. Cheers, /Bob
