That wouldn't do at all. The disk series in Slackware are not just
exclusive to Slackware, they really don't make sense outside of it. For
example, the only real difference between the "a" series and the "ap"
series is that the first is the absolute bare necessities to boot and
run, but both sets are "CLI applications". Even then, the line is
somewhat blurred. Should "man" really be in the "ap" series? One can
make the case that "man" is a bare necessity. Beyond that, what
constitutes a library that belongs in the "l" series? Several libraries
are included in "kde" or "x" for example. In other words, using those
labels apart from the Slackware installer has little or no meaning.

Also, using the Slackware disksets would have been more than a little
presumptuous on our part. It would be the same as walking up to Pat,
slapping him in the face, and saying "Slackware should have
foo-0.9b1-i486-1.tgz in ap/ like slackbuilds.org has done!"
