New version fixes a few KDE glitches, I cleaned up the COMPAT32 issue - only 1 driver file to download so sbopkg should be happier. Thanks to all who made comments/suggestions. However, while the legacy drivers should work, with some margin, for some newer cards as well, your card most definitely should still be supported fine by the most recent drivers. Both of which work with the newest driver. Along with an fx5500 AGP that needs the legacy driver. Though there is no harm in using the legacy driver with GPUs that are supported with the current driver. I'd surely follow Heinz's advise, and post a description and attach an nvidia bug report output at www.nvnews.net Could be something as simple as needing to alter your xorg.conf to include some AGP options. I did have a 7600AGP card, however is was part of the failed batch from EVGA that included faulty capacitors. But I think I know how to do that - and I'm not there yet! Thanks, -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The default REPO_NAME and REPO_BRANCH are SBo and 13.37. At least for now, git repos (as opposed to rsync) don't have REPO_BRANCHes. All of this is configurable from the configuration file but can also be controlled from the command line. Something like '-D /media/network1/mirror' (versions older than the latest use '-d' instead of '-D') would have sbopkg look in that directory for a hierarchy it recognizes. Something like '-V Sbo/build-13.37' might tell it to use that. If that's not what's actually going on, you might need to set ROOT to /media/network1/mirror/Sbo, NAME to 'build-13.37' and not have a branch. (If I'm remembering correctly - I don't use these features myself. If I'm wrong, I'll look at the code later.) As far as the repos.d files, those files want the repo (name) and the branch but don't expect the REPO_ROOT to be specified in them - but I don't know what your file looks like. The best thing to do, however, if you don't have a reason not to, is to use sbopkg's default local directory: /var/lib/sbopkg/local. Then a simple ' sbopkg -V local' will activate that repo. That I do use, and know that works as described. And, at this point, if what I've said doesn't help, this is really more material for sbopkg's own list (where I'd also appreciate everyone signing up, for the same reasons Robby expressed.) :) There, more detail on your filesystem and what your files actually say would be good. If so, then the following line in slim.conf login_cmd exec /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session must be replaced with login_cmd exec /bin/bash -login /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc %session I feel that using the system xinitrc integrates better with the system and users can resort to xwmconfig to change the X session without having to manually edit their personal .xinitrc. However, if this is not the case, then I suggest adding the Slim README file a reminder to create an xinitrc with "exec you_x_session". Personally, it took me some time to figure out the problem, since Slim just kept telling me "failed to execute login command". Regards, Jos? It is interesting to understand the semantics of the syntax but a better test is to use the original syntax that ships with the SMPlayer desktop file and observe that it completely fails to load files that have spaces in their filenames. The change I have suggested rectifies this and this change to the desktop files is also used in UMPlayer, the fork and seeming successor to SMPlayer. I am not certain if murmur is still maintained. The murmur,SlackBuild needs this change when using mumble-1.2.3: qmake -recursive main.pro \ CONFIG+=no-client \ CONFIG+=no-ice \ CONFIG+=no-bonjour Also, murmurd did not run via rc.murmur as 'root' via rc.local - the uname parameter must be set to some regular user ('root' and blank were a no-go, and setting a user was not ignored). However, doing so means one has to chown /var/lib/mumble-server /var/log/mumble-server /var/run/mumble-server to that user, or you get a "not found" error and the log and sqlite end up in the wrong place (and then clients can't connect). Right now it is working with these changes, but I'd like to make sure I didn't do something silly and bork the security before I open it up to the world. Also, wouldn't it be better to consolidate the mumble and murmur scripts? -Ed -- You! Having the server installed seems to be completely independent from having the client installed on a particular system. Furthermore, if I recall correctly the server and client have different dependencies (even though we're not tracking them in our package system). It seems to me like two mostly independent source trees for two mostly independent applications that coincidentally happen to share the same source tarball. Furthermore, trying them together into the same package would impose the requirement that the client and server match version numbers. It's possible that someone might want to run a 1.1.x server (because other people using their server are still using 1.1.x) but wants to install a 1.2.x client on the same system (which includes a backwards-compatible client for 1.1.x servers). > Its just that I am old school from the days of small expensive hard > drives. It works with wxPython because wxPython builds the "extra" stuff in contrib. wxGTK is a leaner package, without all the extra stuff. All packages that need wxGTK will work with wxPython as well, the opposite is not true. wxGTK = wxX11 + GTK stuff wxPython = wxGTK + python stuff + contrib stuff So, nothing is broken, the requirements for pgadmin3 are correct. -- Niels Horn From rworkman at slackbuilds.org Fri Jul 22 05:04:06 2011 From: rworkman at slackbuilds.org (Robby Workman) Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2011 05:04:06 +0000 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Updates - 20110722.1 Message-ID: <20110722050406.GA22828@slackbuilds.org> Fri Jul 22 03:53:33 UTC 2011 Greetings! I created my own xorg.conf stub a long time ago for the binary driver, and prefer not to have another conf file added. Some people use different options with their driver as well. Simply making it optional via a build option should satisfy everyone. Still convenient for first-time installs, but won't break > existing setups. What do you think? Short answer: No. Long answer: You are thinking the wrong way. The package ought to work right out of the box, so the config should be included. This will override changes made by the user, but everyone who knows what they are doing - and quite frankly, if you edit the Xorg.conf, you should - will be able to fix this. Once. Remember that /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d overrides /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. So you should mention in the README, that this package now uses the conf.d style in order to let people know that there might be trouble updating, but not overcomplicate things. Adding it as a .new file doesn't really make sense, as the package installed version should be outside /etc. Just my two cents. -- GPG signed Fingerprint: 60B4 D8E3 9617 900C 6726 168F D677 5AAD D40F CCE7 Certserver : hkp://pgp.mit.edu -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... That sounds like the correct solution to me, fwiw. Installing /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf with the package will perhaps cause a one-time "wtf" moment for someone installing it, but that's easy to document in README. From donaldcallen at gmail.com Sun Jul 31 12:14:37 2011 From: donaldcallen at gmail.com (Donald Allen) Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2011 08:14:37 -0400 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] tangogps slackbuild doesn't work Message-ID: The tangogps slackbuild does not work with gpsd (on a 64-bit 13.37 Slackware system running on a Toshiba NB305 netbook), also installed from slackbuilds.org. I am using a GlobalSat BU-353 gps receiver. After starting gpsd, I run xgps to test, and I get a 3D fix and everything looks normal. But when I start tangogps, while the chatter it produces indicates that it has successfully hooked up with gpsd, there is no indication of that in the map display. Current position is not displayed correctly, and various bits of data that would normally come from the gps are blank or displayed as zero, nor does it display your track and heading. So I decided to download the source from the tangogps website and built and installed it (configure complained that libsoup was not installed, which I fixed; it is not mentioned as a dependency on http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/misc/tangogps/; this may have to do with the version issues I will discuss below). This version works properly (though it does occasionally seg-fault). I noticed that the slackbuilds.org package uses tangogps version 0.99.2 (which was released on 12/3/2009) and the version I built from source, the current version, is 0.99.4 (released 6/25/2010). I note that the release notes for 0.99.4 include "support for the new gpsd protocol". So perhaps the failure of the slackbuild is due to tangogps trying to talk old protocol to gspd, which no longer supports it? (I am running gpsd v2.96, as supplied by the slackbuild) It appears that gpsd switched to the new protocol with version 2.90 and from what I can tell from their website, the old protocol is no longer supported. So I'm guessing that any version of tangogps before 0.99.4 is not going to work with any gpsd version >= 2.90. (As I've indicated, I'm speculating about the cause of the breakage -- I've written to the tangogps author about this, and if I learn anything further I will share with this list.) As for the libsoup issue, perhaps that dependency was introduced after 0.99.2? In any case, I would recommend updating this slackbuild and the associated web-page to use the current version, 0.99.4, which I think will solve the problem. libsoup needs to be added to list of dependencies. /Don Allen -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The gpsd maintainer is lying in bed feeling very very ill and reading email with the brightness set to minimum :-( gpsd-2.96 has an API change (the function set_raw_hook was removed) which means viking-1.1 doesn't build. That's why I recently submitted the downgraded gpsd-2.95. Both tangogps-0.99-2 and tangogps-0.99.4 build ok with both gpsd-2.96 and gpsd-2.95. I don't know of any specific changes in gpsd-2.96 that will cause a runtime segfault in tangogps. Because it's difficult to get a satellite fix in bed, actual testing of tangogps-0.99.4 will require the gpsd maintainer to get out of bed :-/ I've only just noticed there is a problem with SBo's viking.info at the moment. Although the SlackBuild is for version 1.1, the .info file is still for the old version 0.9.94 FWIW, libcurl's error 6 is "Couldn't resolve host. The given remote host was not resolved." which doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would provoke a segfault. The gpsd maintainer is now feeling a bit better, having spent the last 20 minutes thinking about tangogps, viking and gpsd instead of migraine. Maybe later tonight the gpsd maintainer will get out of bed :-) Probably more later -D. I'll implement it when the 280 series goes gold. My basic idea when I threw in "drivers.conf" was to make a better out of the box automagic experience for "regular" users, e.g. people who don't need to, or don't want to, mess configuration I didn't worry about "power" users since I had assumed, especially if they run a full xorg.conf like I do, that they would just delete the extra unneeded file and then run "startx". This sounds really similar to the issue with uget that I dealt with a while back. If it's the same issue, it can be fixed by adding curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_NOSIGNAL, 1); somewhere in the bit of code that sets the other curl options. The issue is actually documented in the curl API docs: if curl is built with threads but without c-ares support (like the one shipped with slackware), the default DNS timeout handling (which uses signals, presumably SIGALRM) is unsafe. Adding to the confusion is that (at least in the case of uget) this didn't actually hurt anything on slackware 13.1, but it does on 13.37. I dunno if you can consider this a bug in curl or not: it's documented, but if I were a curl dev, I'd want to fix it (by having CURLOPT_NOSIGNAL default to 1 when curl is built without c-ares). Application code can set CURLOPT_NOSIGNAL, but I don't know how hard it is for a configure script or makefile to detect whether curl was built with c-ares, and I don't know what happens if you set CURLOPT_NOSIGNAL when using a libcurl with c-ares support. It sounds like the curl people may not have chosen the most conservative default, but you concede to not completely understanding the trade-offs and I know a good deal less than you do about this, so I will leave this as pure speculation. I will report back to the list when either 1. I've run tangogps for a good deal longer than the mean-time-between-segfaults without a crash, or 2. I continue to see segfaults even with the suggested fix installed.. /Don > _______________________________________________ > SlackBuilds-users mailing list > SlackBuilds-users at slackbuilds.org > http://lists.slackbuilds.org/mailman/listinfo/slackbuilds-users > Archives - http://lists.slackbuilds.org/pipermail/slackbuilds-users/ > FAQ - http://slackbuilds.org/faq/ > > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
