I only see the warnings when running the gui (plain "synergy') from the
command line. When running either synergys or sunergc, no warnings appear.

Are you using just synergyc & synergys Marcel (therefore no warnings)?

If that is generally the case, then one could initially use synergy to
run the gui (tolerating the warnings for now) just to compose a
configuration . After quitting synergy, copy the configuration from
/tmp/qt_temp.XXXXXX to somewhere safe (I used ~/.synergy/synergy.conf).

Alternatively one could construct a configuration completely by hand.

Regardless of how the configuration file is derived, from now on, rather
than running synergy, run 'synergys -c /path/to/synergy.conf' and have
no more avahi warnings.
