I was able to build mame without using the bundled packages using
USE_SYSTEM_LIB_<LIB>=1.

# Slackware package /tmp/mame-0.166-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz created.

I just leave portmidi as is due to the mame devs did some GCC
related fixes in the past. Anyway, for lua there's no SBo
SlackBuild for version 5.3, but with some simple tweaks of lua52
you are able to build lua 5.3.1.
