Admins,

Last night I submitted ART.tar.gz, an update from 1.17.2 to 1.18.1. I 
must have been tired, because evidently I forgot to actually test that 
it works, and it turns out this version segfaults on launch. It's 
already in the approved queue, so I can't use the automated form to 
remove it. Can someone revert this commit for me?

In case anybody in this forum is affected, Thunderbird has been officially
upgraded to version 102.7.1 for Slackware 15.0 and, most disappointingly,
the authentication issue against MS servers is still there.

Hey everybody, this actually affected one of my submissions.  It's a paid article on LWN (I don't have a membership), but it links to a GitHub blog post and there's enough in the first paragraph on LWN to describe the problem:

Git archive generation meets Hyrum's law

On January 30, the GitHub blog carried a brief notice that the checksums of archives (such as tarballs) generated by the site had just changed. GitHub's engineers were seemingly unaware of the consequences of such a change ? consequences that were immediately evident to anybody familiar with either packaging systems or Hyrum's law. Those checksums were widely depended on by build systems, which immediately broke when the change went live; the resulting impact of jawbones hitting the floor was observed by seismographs worldwide. The change has been reverted for now, but it is worth looking at how GitHub managed to casually break vast numbers of build systems ? and why this sort of change will almost certainly happen again.

Action item for reviewers: MD5SUMs for source tarballs hosted on GitHub that have been submitted this week need to be verified again (the change that caused the problem has been reverted on GitHub's end). Hi Erich,

You sent your email at just the right time.

My intention is to rename the qtile dependencies.
python-dbus-next -> python3-dbus-next
python-xkbcommon -> python3-xkbcommon
pywayland -> python3-pywayland
pywlroots -> python3-pywlroots

Current SlackBuilds rules indicate that Python2 only packages must be named python2-*, and Python3 only packages must be named python3-*.
My previous package names were inconsistent.
For example, the name python-dbus-next may mistakenly give the impression of supporting both Python 2 and Python 3, when the SlackBuild only builds in Python 3.

I already sent in a pull request for removing python-dbus-next, python-xkbcommon, pywayland and pywlroots from SlackBuilds.org:

The new package names are python3-dbus-next, python3-xkbcommon, python3-pywayland and python3-pywlroots.

A heads-up: I plan on renaming python-helpdev to python3-helpdev, and updating QDarkStyle (which depends on python3-helpdev) to 3.1.0.
I will not be renaming every package in this manner, though.

This is not the naming scheme used in Slackware 15.0, as it does not use the
suffix 3, so all python-* packages in it are built against python3. When will it
be time for a change? As an aside, as I have used the Slackware 15.0 naming
scheme in Slint 15, to avoid re-installing packages shipped in it but also
provided by SBo under another name when users run slapt-src (similar to sbopkg)
I use this file:

Hi Didier,

To elaborate:
New packages uploaded to SlackBuilds.org currently must follow the following scheme:
python2-*: Packages built only in Python 2
python3-*: Packages built only in Python 3
python-* or *: Packages built both in Python 2 and Python 3

Examples (I am maintaining both SlackBuilds listed below):
python-evdev builds in both Python 2 and 3.
iniconfig also builds in both Python 2 and 3.

Past packages uploaded to SlackBuilds.org do not necessarily follow this scheme.
For instance, traitlets (uploaded by Benjamin Trigona-Harany) initially only had Python 2 support. He then added Python 3 support to traitlets and later on dropped Python 2 support (for the latter, see the git commit labeled "Updated for 5.0.5"). Therefore, traitlets now only builds in Python 3:
https://git.slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/log/python/traitlets?h=15.0

I think it will take far too much time for the admins to rename all the SlackBuilds just to comply with the naming scheme I mentioned above. That's why SlackBuilds names seem somewhat inconsistent, with python-* SlackBuilds supporting only Python 3.

I have had my new SlackBuild uploads rejected because I uploaded Python3-only builds with the name python-* (for example, python-tomlkit, built only in Python 3, was initially rejected until I renamed the SlackBuild to python3-tomlkit). That's how I know.

SBo has many more scripts/packages to keep track off than in 15.0,
and having a stricter naming convention does make it easier to keep
track of what is what.  Just to show this:

SBo git:

It seems the site hosting the source for desktop/wmctrl is down.

I found the same file (with the same MD5SUM) on fedora's servers. I'm not
sure if we should just update it to that or save the source elsewhere and
link to the new location.

Try editing the SlackBuild, add --disable-libplacebo to the ./configure args.

Not sure who's going to take over vlc... are you interested, since you use it?

I've tried to upgrade to btop 1.2.12 package, but it fails:

I added that it was renamed from stone_soup in the git log body

I forgot to 'git add' it. Next week's update will have the doinst.sh.

If you don't want to wait until next week, I've attached a copy of
it to this email, just gunzip it and copy to the directory with the
SlackBuild.

re taking over vlc. I have a suspicion that i wouldn't be better than 
Benjamin who had it before. it is rather large and I don't have any of 
the dedicated 3d hardware (the nvidia and amd toolkits are huge) to test.
I do use it , so if no-one steps up, I can give it a go, but I would 
give other people a chance to take it first, and I wouldn't be testing 
the afore-mentioned hardware acceleration options.

I get the same result here. gtk3-unicode-3.2 has lib, not lib64.

it built for me.
I did rebuild libs whos' direct deps had been updated. ie for each 
updated package, I saw what package used it as a first level dep, and 
rebuilt it as well.

On the first time only, running it, I got a "incompatible plugin(s) 
found" message, listing
http://breakfastquay.com/rdf/lv2-rubberband#r3mono
http://breakfastquay.com/rdf/lv2-rubberband#r3stereo
http://lv2plug.in/plugins/eg-sampler
but apart from that it seems to work ok.

Same with FileZilla reported by few people
i guess 3.2.2 did broke some things and they released 3.2.2.1 to fix 
single regression from 3.2.2, but that didn't solve filezilla issue 
either, so i'm going to revert wxWidgets update in the next public 
update until we sort this issue in all scripts that depends on it.

sphinx_rtd_theme    Development    0.4.2    15.0

are duplicates. sphinx-rtd-theme (Python) pypi link references the git
repo for sphinx_rtd_theme (Development). Both project pages state that
installation is via

$ pip install sphinx-rtd-theme

with current version at 1.2.0. I do not think we need both in SBo.

This came up from a report that qemu now needs both Sphinx and
sphinx-rtd-theme in order to build the documentation.

I suggest `Python/sphinx-rtd-theme` to be kept, and `Development/sphinx_rtd_theme` to be removed.

The name with hyphens seems to be more _official_ one.

I noticed reviewing my rkhunter log that git-lfs stores its man pages in /usr/man/man1/man1/ (instead of /usr/man/man1/).  It's due to this line in the SlackBuild:

mv man/* $PKG/usr/man/man1/

But in the source directory:

# ls man
html/  man1/  man5/  man7/

I guess they've moved stuff around since you originally wrote the SlackBuild?

So it has the effect:
$ man git-lfs-update
No manual entry for git-lfs-update

I ran sbopkglint on the package and got some warnings (owner/permissions) (see below).  From that output I also noticed it's putting html files inside /usr/man.

B. Watson: an idea for an additional check for sbopkglint is to make sure no subdirectories are created under /usr/man/man[123456789n]/ (and also the alternate language dirs /usr/man/*/man[123456789n]).

I'm not interested in OpenOffice, but the libcloudproviders slackbuild is
also orphaned (and a few more of you do a maintainer search for
"orphaned").

I'm not sure what the adoption process is, but I'd take over maintaining
libcloudproviders if no one else wants to. It's a dep in some software I
use so I'd like to keep around.

Usually first come, first served.  They are yours, just add a note in
the comments that you are taking it over when you submit your first
update with new maintainer details etc.

Hi, it looks like they finally discontinued it.

Some users report it's still working, so I will do this for now:

I am personally using a separate browser for all these silly

it is interesting :-)

I have been a happy user of i2p for quite some years now using the
Java I2P router (the official i2p release included a slackbuild back
then, and I stuck with it because stuff just works).

so, can recommend. anyone who is into networks should give it a try

Maintainers, please don't use $PRGNAM, $VERSION, etc in .info file keys.

Examples:

DOWNLOAD="https://github.com/kovmir/$PRGNAM/archive/v$VERSION/$PRGNAM-$VERSION.tar.gz"

DOWNLOAD_x86_64="https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/24386000/packages/generic/librewolf/$VERSION-1/LibreWolf.x86_64.AppImage"

I know the .info file looks like valid shell script code (and it
is), but it's also used by things that aren't shells, which don't do
variable substitution. Things like, the SBo database itself, and the
sbosrcarch downloader.

Because someone will ask... No, the guidelines on the website don't
say anything about this, but the examples clearly don't use it. It
never occurred to us that someone would do this, which is why there
hasn't been a written policy about it.

I think this happens because you have also lua installed: if you remove it
conky should detect correctly lua53.

Hi all

It's a recurring problem. I had suggest a way to have all lua installed 
side-by-side before the 15.0 rise IIRC. It was involving some changes to 
the original lua pkg.

Could it be something to be rework on ? (was not a wish on the list at 
the time)

I can't speak on whether or not it's worth adjusting everything to support
variables in there, but if it's just a simple version bump and the version
is the only thing that needs to be changed in the url(s), you can use a
script to update the versions pretty easily.

I made my own script that will update all instances of the version number
in the .info and .SlackBuild, reset the build number, download the
source(s), calculate the md5 for those sources and update that field in the
.info, and check the copyright year in the SlackBuild.

It doesn't work for every script, but should work for most. Most of the
time, it's a very quick way to update everything and not miss the little
things (like resetting the build number). Occasionally, I'll still need to
manually adjust the download link and calculate my own md5, but over the
years I've been using this, it makes updating most of my SlackBuilds
breezes. It's definitely made my job easier.

unfortunately while that could be ok for conky I doubt it will work with
the other stuff that needs lua{,52,53} on SBo...

I looked at the cmake file in /tmp/SBo/conky-1.18.0/ and I didn't find an
obvious way to choose lua53-5.3.4-x86_64-1_SBo instead of
lua-5.1.5-x86_64-1_SBo

I took the easy way out and ran `removepkg lua-5.1.5-x86_64-1_SBo` ( thanks
Matteo ! )

The conky-1.18.0-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz Package built, installed and runs fine.

Then I restored lua-5.1.5-x86_64-1_SBo

And conky still runs fine.

If variable expansions were allowed in URLs, it would make other
things harder, like copy/pasting the URL. Also it would mean rewriting
a lot of tools that parse .info files (both well-known ones and
private ones people develop for their own use).

I don't think this is going to change.

Hi,

I could do a trick here to make it build in machines where lua 5.3 is
installed alongside lua 5.1. It is done simply adding these two lines in
the cmake invocation:

    -DLUA_LIBRARIES=/usr/lib64/liblua5.3.so \
    -DLUA_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/lua5.3 \

Don't know exactly how it works in the inner bits, but the intention is

Nothing wrong with doing that, so long as it works in both situations
(with or without lua-5.1 installed). I'd recommend doing it.

Also, it could be added that lua53 is a necessary dependency of conky,
as coded in the *.info. file. So lua 5.3 should be there.

I think the only thing to test is actually building conky without lua
5.1. It's not my case here but there should be no problems in doing so,
at least theoretically.

Those two defines worked for me too with these two lua packages installed:

   lua-5.1.5-x86_64-1_SBo
   lua53-5.3.4-x86_64-1_SBo

Attached is a patch for the conky.SlackBuild with your two defines.

SBo devs, I have a build for the tailscale binary that I maintain for 
myself. Happy to maintain for SBo if there's interest.

The only issue I've encountered was automatically launching tailscaled 
(daemon) from rc.local created an endless loop. I think because wifi was 
not connected when tailscaled was started from rc.local, it couldn't 
establish a connection. I left it so the user would have to start 
tailscaled from a terminal. If there's a more elegant solution I'm open.

Anyway, the slackbuild is attached. It has my own tags on it.

I downloaded and installed a new directory tarball, then downloaded the
64-bit source (cef_binary_4638_linux64.tar.bz2).

When root tries to build it it immediately fails:
# ./obs-studio.SlackBuild 
tar: /opt/slackbuilds/Multimedia/obs-studio/obs-studio-409cfa43357c6296f53dc08e47e032284fc5fba2.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The directory contents are: README, obs-studio.info,
cef_binary_4638_linux64.tar.bz2, obs-studio.SlackBuild*, slack-desc

The SlackBuild script is using the commit number rather than the source
directory name:

PRGNAM=obs-studio
VERSION=${VERSION:-29.0.0.b3}
COMMIT=409cfa43357c6296f53dc08e47e032284fc5fba2

How do I fix this?

Sorry no - disregard my previous comment.

Looking more carefully at your first email which has your directory
contents, I see that the main tarball is missing. Check the info file
- you also need to wget

I'm away from homebase so can't check in depth right now but I think
you have downloaded the DOWNLOAD files instead of DOWNLOAD_x86_64
files.

I downloaded the SlackBuild (obs-studio.tar.gz) and Source Downloads (64bit):
cef_binary_4638_linux64.tar.bz2 (34fb1c611b3e278ca4d0d1d50e7bfb9b).

Here, in /opt/slackbuilds/Multimedia/obs-studio/ is
cef_binary_4638_linux64.tar.bz2.

But, I agree that the build script appears to see, and use, Source Downloads (Arch-Independent):
obs-studio-409cfa43357c6296f53dc08e47e032284fc5fba2.tar.gz (7f47a6bef15436341d5108d6125b9ed7)

I think this email id for Chris Willing . Never done this before
installed this LibreOffice-7.4.3.2-x86_64-1_SBo yesterday
had to uninstall jdk8 then reinstall jdk8
also had to reboot a couple of times
not much fun.
libreOffice is running now and I'm happy
don't understand why I need both jdk8 and jdk11 installed to make the 
slack build happy.
looking into javajdk problems with LibreOffice-7.4.3.2 SBo install .. 
needed both jdk8 and jdk11 installed
post install
both jdk8.sh and jdk11.sh are in /etc/profile.d .. and they both are 
executable ?????
env says JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib64/zulu-openjdk11
so I guess /etc/profile.d/zulu-openjdk11.sh runs after 
/etc/profile.d/zulu-openjdk8.sh
not to predictable
checking sboui today I see version 7.4.5.1 is available now.
has the jdk wars been settled in this version ?

          I installed MEGAsync using the commands sqg -p MEGAsync &&
          sbopkg -i MEGAsync.

          Apparently everything went normally. But something is wrong because
          the program never connects.

          I'm currently using the flatpak version while the SlackBuilds version
          doesn't work.
