Good Day,

I am in the process of trying to catch up with my builds this week.  I
maintain both the python 2 and 3 versions of python-lz4, which requires
python-pkgconfig.  I maintain these as dependancies of plaso.  Plaso has
moved on to the python3 version only, and I see no other builds that
depend on python2-lz4 or python2-pkgconfig.  Can these be removed, or
does someone what to take them over?

Hi everybody,

	I've taken over maintainance of mailman, but it is stuck on version 2.x,
as it is.
I'm trying to update it to version 3.x which requires a *lot* of python packages.

Amongst them are most of the existing zope.something packages.
All of them are unmaintained, except for zope.interface which I'm maintaining
already. Some are dating as far back as their addition on Slackware 13.0, except
for global maintainance, template updates and stuff like that.

So I'll take over all of them, put them on python3, and update them.
The list is as follow :
Needed for mailman 3 :
 * zope.component
 * zope.configuration
 * zope.event
 * zope.hookable
 * zope.i18nmessageid
 * zope.schema
Other zope packages :
 * zope.location
 * zope.proxy
 * zope.security
 * zope.sqlalchemy
 * zope.testing
New packages :
 * python3-transaction -> part of the zope project too, but without zope in the
name.
 * ZODB -> Replacing ZODB3 which is archived

For that, I'll check that locust, letsencrypt and gaphor are still working
properly, and are maintained, thay are the only packages requiring any of those
ones.

If someone got something to add, please do, I'm preparing the work :)
That won't be enough for mailman 3, but it's a start...
Other packages will have to be added, using proper channels...

I'm wondering about keeping a mailman2 package for mailman 2, which is far less
complex. Or maybe not, if nobody wants that.

Also, I think I'll keep their names as zope.something, instead of
python3-zope.something, feeling like the zope prefix might be enough, since
they'll all be python3-only after I'm done with them.

Follow-up on that message.

Nobody wishes to take over any of those outdated, obsolete, not working
as they are, python2, and unmaintained packages.

I'm removing them all, alongside gaphor, and stuff that are only required by
something on that list.

someone reported a similar error and it was because he was on Slackware
15.0 but he, for some reason, was using a repository of SlackBuild scripts
for Slackware current.
make sure you are using a repository of scripts for your version of
Slackware (that includes checking the settings of any third party automated
build tool you are using).

To be noted that some of those packages have been removed by last wekk's update,
for being obsolete, outdated, or replaced by a python3 version.
Those are : Nevow, Parsley, foolscap, service_identity, tahoe-lafs, txi2p,
txsocksx, and txtorcon.

I'm ok taking over tcc
Also I'll remove characteristic, which is the python2 version, now unneeded, and
replaced by python3-characteristic, it slipped through last weeks cleanup.
I think shutilwhich is pretty unneeded, being python2 only, and not required
anywhere.

Furthermore : zfec builds for python3, but it's requirements (pyutil, zbase32,
darcsver) all build for python2, meaning this cannot work properly.
Since none of them are required by anything else - zfec was a requirement of
tahoe-lafs, which wasn't working and has been removed - I suggest to simply
remove them.

Bottom line :
I'm ok taking over tcc, if nobody else wants it.
I'll simply remove characteristic, shutilwhich, zfec, pyutil, zbase32, darcsver.

Thanks Matt.

I know botan3 is out but currently corectrl doesn't compile against it. So
we'll have to wait until it does to update, as I don't see the point of
splitting the package in two versions (which can coexist) just for one
package each and keepassxc now works with both.

I'll therefore just submit an update with the change of maintainership.

I'll take openzfs unless someone else really wants it. I'm running 
it on almost all of my machines and have plans for a few more slackbuilds 
that depend on it.

Hello, everyone

I really should ask for help at guile-dbi or guile's channels, but I
have already done so, and they are not particularly active.

So, I have two slackbuilds:

They compile and install fine, however, using the guile-dbi module fails
with a cryptic error:

scheme@(guile-user)> (load "/dbi/dbi.scm")
guile: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libguile-dbi.so: undefined symbol: lt_dlinit

Indeed, nm'ing /usr/lib64/libguile-dbi.so I find lt_dlinit being U for
"undefined".

I have never seen such an error before. I know that libtool is not
expected to be simple, but I have never ever seen libtool errors.
Can someone sugges a debugging method?

Not sure if this helps you but lt_dlinit is provided by libltdl.so (use -ldtl
in the build).

Found by grepping all files (but not symlinks) under /usr/lib64. In particular:

> $ findit libltdl.so lt_dlinit

Does anyone here use kitty, and want to take over maintenance of it?

I've just updated kitty-bin to the latest release, but the
build-from-source kitty build is still at 0.26.5. I'm unlikely to ever
update it, because google-go-lang is just too much of a moving target
for me to want to aim at... and because kitty-bin works OK anyway.

Furthermore... I just don't like kitty much. I prefer rxvt-unicode,
or plain old xterm.

Any takers?

OK, I got the URL wrong. If you use this:

DOWNLOAD="https://github.com/wustho/epy/archive/v2023.6.11/epy-2023.6.11.tar.gz"

...the md5sum matches and the package will build.

You'll see 2023.6.11 listed here: https://github.com/wustho/epy/tags

...though you're right, it's not on the releases page.

I looked into the build script and what is required for the next update
and I think I can manage it.

kitty requires Go 1.20, so it would be nice if google-go-lang could be
updated to 1.20. As far as I understand google-go-lang 1.20 cannot be
built with gccgo anymore and requires compiler bootstrapping. In the
meanwhile I will probably use a binary compiler release.

Go seems to have a so called vendoring feature, where you can
pre-download the dependencies, put them into a tarball and build the
thing offline. Worked for me in my first test.

 If kitty isn?t using any go 1.20 features, generally you could safely downgrade the go.mod requirement. I?ve had to do this with a package I maintain, changing it back to go 1.19 on 15.0. As for go1.20 itself, I?ve not been able to get that going on 15.0. Generally when someone is building against go for dev, they are using the latest release, but we seem stuck on 1.19 for now (1.20 does build on -current) so long-term I don?t have a solution for that myself.

thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try to patch go.mod and see if it
works.

I haven't tried to build Go 1.20 myself, but assumed it would be
possible. I built GCC 8.2 for Slackware 14.2 (gcc-d) and it was a real
adventure. I had to built GCC 7.3.0 and then use it to build 8.2.0, all
inside the same build script. It takes GBs of space on the disk and
hours to compile. But this is a standard procedure to build new versions
of compilers, bootstrapping. Golang builds much faster.

 But we can?t build against AlienBob?s packages on SBo. The version here is on 1.19.7 and that?s what we are stuck building against until/unless it?s updated on the repo.

Hey,
I wanted to try Darktable today, it compiled fine but wouldn't start 
(crashlog: http://0x0.st/Hecc.txt). As the dump said something about 
"Iris", I thought of trying `MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965 
darktable`, and that worked. Iirc, this option was necessary for 
LibreOffice a year or so ago, that's where I know it from.

A note about 32bit support for eccodes and subsequently cdo. The 32bit
support was removed from eccodes a few versions ago (the last version with
official 32 bit support is 2.29.0). I don't think there is a way within
slackbuilds to have different versions for different architectures but if
people need eccodes/cdo on 32bit, this would be the way to go.

Alternatively I could add an option to disable eccode support in cdo making
it "supported" in 32bit. One of the reasons I added eccodes as a dependency
for cdo was that the build tests were failing without it.

I must admit I haven't tried compiling eccodes on a 32 bit arch and do not
know if it actually does work but is not supported or simply doesn't
compile at all.

Let me know if people want 32bit support for cdo and which option you would
prefer.

I usually rebuild the repo after the public update every week. There are 
a number of builds failing on 32bit now (and some have been for a 
while). I began fixing a few last week, but did not make it through the 
entire list yet.

Hi

after Benjamin Trigona left SBo, I took over the maintenance of some of 
his slackbuilds. SFCGAL is one of these. It depends on CGAL and its 
upgrade is stopped since two years but lastest versions require an 
upgrade of CGAL to version 5.3 at least. So this package can not be updated.

In the documentation of the lastest release (5.5.2) I read:

"Since Version 5.0, CGAL is now header-only by default, meaning that you 
do not need to build and install CGAL. Usage of CGAL as a header-only 
library"

The slackbuild script of David Spencer works also with new versions of 
CGAL: it does not compile but installs several files in /usr/include, 
some scripts in /usr/bin, and several config files for cmake in /usr/lib64

This could conflict with other packages depending on 4.x versions of 
CGAL, but other packages that require an upgrade of CGAL can not be 
updated.

How we can solve this problem? If we have to kept 4.x version we could 
propose two packages, a current and a legacy versions. These we can 
named for example CGAL and CGAL5. What do you think about that?

Note that SFCGAL is needed only as optional dependency by some packages 
that require it for advanced 3D support (for example gdal and postgis), 
instead of CGAL that is strictly needed for some packages.

Ok, source for pv-1.7.18 did change between my update and now.
The differences are of no consequences, but md5sum did change.

If you update the REQs to use the lua53 slackbuild instead, xournalpp
v1.2.0 builds fine here.

Requiring lua 5.3 shouldn?t be a problem as sbo contains a package (lua53) that can co-exist with a regular lua install. I keep an install of lua53 on my systems without any noticeable problems with other packages and it may even satisfy deps for the lua packages you have the regular lua installed for.

It did fail if lua was also installed.  Adding the following works though.

+# set lua version to use otherwise it will use an older version \
+# if more than one installed
+sed -i 's/^find_package(Lua/find_package(Lua 5.3/' CMakeLists.txt
+
mkdir -p build
cd build
