For a working setup, I checked out d0f41c3[2], compiled protobuf3 25.3 and then recompiled Kismet. 26.0 might work also. There are issues with protobuf 26.1 and higher and you can see hints about this in Kismet's Git log[3]. Not a huge concern, but wanted to let you know. I want to prepare a package called "creduce" [1] for SlackBuilds.org. The thing about "creduce" is that some internal code of it, clang_delta, needs to be compiled with LLVM (headers), while the rest of the code can be built with g++. Using LLVM 13.0, as it exists in Slackware-15.0, leads to errors. The project team is aware of this [2] and a specific "llvm-13.0" branch [3] is provided to address that. So what I need to populate the source is something along these lines: $ git clone --single-branch --branch llvm-13.0 --depth 1 \ https://github.com/csmith-project/creduce.git I am wondering what's the best approach, from SlackBuilds scripts point of view, to tackle this? If you decide to use the github link, beware: the link results in a different filename being saved, depending on whether or not the client uses the Content-disposition header. Example: $ mkdir a $ cd a $ wget --quiet --content-disposition https://github.com/csmith-project/creduce/archive/refs/heads/llvm-13.0.zip $ ls creduce-llvm-13.0.zip $ wget --quiet --no-content-disposition https://github.com/csmith-project/creduce/archive/refs/heads/llvm-13.0.zip creduce-llvm-13.0.zip llvm-13.0.zip This is annoying, but not fatal. Just make sure your SlackBuild script can cope with either filename. One way to do it: ZIPFILE=$CWD/$PRGNAM-llvm-13.0.zip [ ! -e $ZIPFILE ] || ZIPFILE=$CWD/llvm-13.0.zip unzip $ZIPFILE Another thing... if you change the .zip to .tar.gz in the URL, you get a tarball instead of a zip file. I just checked, and the .tar.gz file is 25% smaller than the zip file, but the contents are identical. So that seems like a win. They'll get posted on this mailing list and then might be forgotten in the future. I feel like there have been several linked on this mailing list, but the only other one I can think of right now is the using git to push updates guide that was based on one of my responses. Also, if there hasn't been one made, I'd love to see a naming guide for python packages or have it added to the submission/upload pages. It seems most are using the supported python version in the package name and separating python2/3 packages, but not all. Having a preferred SBo naming standard could help new maintainers make sure they name their packages consistently.
