From willysr at slackbuilds.org Sat Nov 2 12:49:11 2024 From: willysr at slackbuilds.org (Willy Sudiarto Raharjo) Date: Sat, 2 Nov 2024 19:49:11 +0700 Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] Updates - 20241102.1 Message-ID: Hi all, we decided to merge lua54 changes this week since we received positive feedback from some maintainers and if there's some runtime issues, we can try to fix it in the next public updates. So just reminder of what the big changes are: lua -> updated to 5.4 (to match what -current have at this moment) lua52,lua53 -> removed lua51 -> added to support those who still relied on older lua all the other scripts that depends on lua51 have been bumped so people who uses automatic tools will get notified to rebuild. Big thanks to Urchlay, Lockywolf, and Ponce who the work on migrating our scripts to match with what is in the -current. We hope this work will ease our effort preparing for next repo. Thanks for checking. I did manage to start up awesome built with lua51, but I don't know how to use awesome so I couldn't really test it in detail. At one point, I even built lgi and awesome with luajit and they seemed to work correctly... not sure what use that information is, but it's food for thought anyway. Watson) Date: Sun, 10 Nov 2024 05:11:20 -0500 (EST) Subject: [Slackbuilds-users] imminent luajit-2.1.x upgrade Message-ID: Greetings SlackBuilders... Anyone who has builds that rely on luajit, please check out the luajit-2.1 branch in the repo, make sure your builds work OK. Everything there has been tested by me and by Erik Falor (the luajit maintainer), and everything seems to work... except haruna, which didn't work with luajit-2.0 either, and vcmi... though that may just be PEBKAC: neither of us has any idea how to start up a game of HOMM 3 Shareware. It behaves the same with with either version of luajit, at least. If nobody finds any showstopper bugs, I intend to merge the luajit-2.1 branch just before next week's update (Friday the 15th). The plan is to keep SBo's version of luajit for Slack 15.0 at the same version as the luajit in Slackware-current. Right now, this is 2.1.1727870382 (which is a git snapshot; the 1727870382 is the UNIX epoch timestamp of the commit). We don't plan to update this until Pat updates the one in -current (if he does). Between this and the lua 5.4 update last week, we shouldn't have to worry about anything lua-related breaking when Slackware 15.1 releases and we migrate the repo to it. Yeah. I should have known better than to use PV's -current source. I'm used to stable Slackware where stuff won't change... For now, use: https://slackware.uk/~urchlay/src/luajit-2.1.1727870382.tar.lz ...and next week's update will include PV's new luajit version, but with a stable URL. Due to timezone differences and my weird work schedule, I wasn't able to do anything about this last night before the update. Message-ID: Hello, all, The sbotools version on SlackBuilds Online has had no commits for over five years and is no longer compatible with release Slackware (the default repository doesn't match and compat32 builds are broken for almost everything). The current maintainer has been inactive on SBo for about the same amount of time. I sent him an email about two weeks ago asking permission for a maintainer change, but he hasn't gotten back to me. Effectively, this would mean renaming my fork, sbotools3 (which is due for a version release either way), to sbotools and continuing development and maintenance under that name. Would this be all right? If you haven't heard back in 2 weeks, it's yours. If you replace the original source with your own fork, that's perfectly OK too: it's your build, you do what makes sense to you. You don't have to rename your source. You can keep the SBo package named 'sbotools' and use something like SRCNAM=sbotools3 for the tar/etc commands in the script. I'd suggest putting a line in the README explaining that the build is for your 'sbotools3' fork, which is actively maintained. An intrusive approach could be updating the sbotools3 package for the last time that replaces the whole content with a mere script that instructs user to switch to sbotools package. I wasn't aware there already was a sbotools3 package... I thought Eugene was talking about switching sbotools to a fork that's actually maintained. If that were the case, there'd be no need to rename the source tarball. Since there already is a sbotools3, I don't know what Eugene's got in mind. If you run sbosnap without specifying REPO in /etc/sbotools/sbotools.conf, I believe it defaults to ponce's repository, even on a 15.0 install. I'm curious about the compat32 issue as well. Yes, the plan would be to change the sbotools upstream and remove sbotools3 from SBo. The original authors are thanked prominently on the website and in README.md, none of their attributions have been removed, and I'm retaining the WTFPL license. This would have mostly worked when the feature was introduced, but in the 15.0 repository, almost all SlackBuilds default to i586 (or even i686) for 32-bit architecture. This results in build failure. I suspect the feature has never been particularly popular, since it would have caused problems for most builds even during the 14.2 cycle. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
