Interesting question. The current "site-packages" check would become
slightly more complicated (especially for runs without the repo present),
but I don't think it would be an insurmountable problem from an sbotools
perspective.

One point in favor of "python3*3.12" scripts is that it would be possible
to distinguish between things that do and don't need the newer version, and
things that can and can't be built against it. I suspect it would also be
easier on folks who like to run builds manually.
