Interestingly, I had a look at the cgit repo, and cgit usually allows
downloading tar.gz snapshots following a link like:
https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnuzilla.git/snapshot/gnuzilla-39e2003399c78e440862b415da0fbb6d8fafac0f.tar.gz
This works, for example, for GNU Emacs, which is also hosted at
savannah.
However, in the case of gnuzilla, this link is explicitly disabled.
