[Slackbuilds-users] Skype only works as root

I installed the Skype package using from SBo
(http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.1/network/skype/) on Slackware
64-bit v13.1 with AlienBob's multilib 32-bit compatibility package
installed.  It's all very recent.

Skype works perfectly if I'm logged in as root.

But when I log in as with my user I can start it up and enter my
username & password but it never seems to connect.  It just s

I've Googled and a few people have suggested there's permissions issue
with the configuration files (in /home/user/.Skype) and they could
benefit from a chmod -R 777.  I've done that but it hasn't helped.

Also, if I open a terminal window, switch to root (with su -) and run
skype it says "No protocol specified" (but if I don't su to root and
just type skype the Skype starts but it still never logs in.

I'd really appreciate any help this!
