I'm the maintainer of calibre. 0.7.45 was the last version of calibre
that could successfully compile on Slackware. Until Slackware stable
comes with python 2.7.1, calibre won't be upgraded.

Besides Eric Hamleers calibre package, another alternative is just
download the pre-compiled binary version of calibre from
calibre-ebook.com.
