I have just built it against libgnome 2.28 on a clean chroot, my guess
is that there is some sort of incompatibility between the glib that
comes with Slack 13.1 and the one you have installed for GNOME 2.30.

Is it Dropline, GSB, GSlacky or something else? I'd try a newer
version of gnome-mail-notification.
