4.6.1 wasn't building on my slackware-current and i tried updating to
4.7.1 and it works better. changelog mentions fixes related to
distro/gcc configurations so its probably related.

it also now has an optional dependency of libkface. (since 4.6 i believe)

i basically used the following in the info file:

PRGNAM="kphotoalbum"
VERSION="4.7.1"
HOMEPAGE="http://kphotoalbum.org"
DOWNLOAD="http://download.kde.org/stable/kphotoalbum/4.7.1/src/kphotoalbum-4.7.1.tar.xz"
MD5SUM="6994263a53780e1f5d40cc197db8f10b"
...

then bumped up VERSION in the SlackBuild to match:

VERSION=${VERSION:-4.7.1}
