I'd forgotten that they're dropping x86 support in 6.3.x. However I
noticed that on the LO development list, they're helping people from a
specialist x86 distro to make their own packages. No success with that
yet but the fact that they're being assisted by the developers gives
some hope that it's possible.

As for the compiler verion problem, I'm going to try Eugen's suggestion
to use ggc-d and if it works for x86_64 then I'll try it with x86. If
both work then I'll update but otherwise leave it where it is.
