GitHub received a DMCA takedown request against youtube-dl recently: 
https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2020/10/2020-10-23-RIAA.md

The source tarball is still available for download from 
https://yt-dl.org/download.html. I'm sure other alternative download 
sources can be found too.
